The Bemidji String Quartet Fellowship was founded in 2026 as an advanced chamber music experience designed for dedicated high school string musicians seeking artistic growth beyond traditional ensemble settings. Through intensive coaching, collaborative rehearsal, performance opportunities, and mentorship from professional musicians, Fellows develop the technical, musical, and interpersonal skills essential to chamber music excellence.
Rooted in the mission of the Bemidji Performing Arts Academy—to provide high-quality transformative education and experiences through music—the Fellowship cultivates leadership, artistry, and lifelong musicianship through the study and performance of the string quartet repertoire.
Participation is by audition and limited to a select cohort of highly motivated violinists, violists, and cellists.
Develop advanced ensemble skills including communication, balance, blend, interpretation, and artistic collaboration.
Cultivate independence, responsibility, and leadership through self-directed rehearsal and musical decision-making.
Engage deeply with masterworks of the string quartet repertoire while refining technical and expressive abilities.
Receive coaching and guidance from experienced chamber musicians and educators.
Share music with audiences throughout northern Minnesota through public performances and outreach activities.
Student-led rehearsals focused on ensemble preparation and collaborative problem-solving.
Regular coaching sessions providing artistic guidance, technical instruction, and rehearsal strategies.
